Eclipse

definition: Occurs when a satellite passes through the line between the earth and the sun or the earth and another satellite, resulting in a service outage.

Encryption / Scrambling

definition: Process of electronically ciphering a signal so it cannot be received without a decoder.

Sun Outage

definition: When the sun passes behind a satellite in relation to the earth and the sun's energy momentarily interferes with the satellite signals. Occurs two times each year during spring and fall equinox.
